Connectivity for people, machines, and things is accelerated via 5G networks. Increased use of this system has improved motorcycle safety and allowed for more consistent communication. Furthermore, 5G technology drastically decreases the air latency by around a millisecond, allowing devices to get responses to requests much more quickly. To further facilitate enhanced connectivity between these motorcycles and external devices, many telecommunications firms are developing cutting-edge 5G networks.

There will be monetary gains from implementing 5G technology. The 5G Automobile Association conducted a study showing that by 2035, Europe would receive about 43 million euros in revenue from traffic efficiency and improvement in road safety, thanks in large part to the implementation of collaborative intelligent transportation systems (C-ITS). As a result, the introduction of 5G connectivity to the linked mobility is anticipated to cause a significant shift in the industry. Examples include the 5G IoT connection solutions for electric two-wheelers that were announced by Vodafone and Idea in October 2019. An IoT-based solution, including a bike location, geofencing, and real-time bike data and analysis, are provided by Vodafone Creative Business Services to Revolt Intellicorp as part of the agreement.
The performance, stability, handling, and controls of various motorcycle categories, such as cruisers, adventure bikes, scooters, and sport bikes, vary widely. Motorcyclists require a high level of agility and awareness because they have so little protection in the event of an accident. OEMs, governments, and road safety agencies all have a vested interest in reducing the prevalence of motorbike accidents. In the United States, for instance, motorcyclists account for 34 percent of road fatalities. NHTSA estimates that of the 5,458 motor vehicle incidents in the United States in 2020, 76% included riders and 24% involved passengers. Governments and motorcyclists also worry a lot about collisions with stationary objects. Rider mistake, such as excessive speed, insufficient handling, running wide on a curve, or a fall due to over braking, was a factor in 34% of motorcycles colliding fatally with stationary objects in 2020.
Motorcycles have a sparse standardisation of connectivity. Harmonised technical standards are essential for interoperability, and without them, it would be impossible for V2I or V2V communications to provide seamless and dependable connectivity. Several European countries, including Germany, Slovenia, Spain, Portugal, France, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom, will have C-ITS (Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems) for connected vehicles, road infrastructure, motorcyclists, and railway equipment by October 2019. Road Work Warning (RWW), In-Vehicle Signage (IVS), Other Hazardous Location Notifications (OHLN), and Green Light Optimal Speed Advisory (GLOSA) were among the first services implemented by the consortium. A key issue of user data privacy in Europe has not yet been addressed by the systems.
The introduction of the unified linked platform would be significantly aided by the global adoption of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for the sharing, tracking, and protection of user data. Even though there is no clear roadmap in place for future rollout and significant safety measures have not yet been included, future deployment is contingent on the success of the initial phase. However, in other nations like China, Japan, and the United States, uniform legislation and frameworks for connected automobiles are still in the works. Until a standardised framework is in place, the widespread use of fully connected cars and bikes is unlikely.
